Description
Here is a great antique Burke & James Ingento super large 8x10 camera. It was made at the turn of the 1900's and was originally designed as a Enlarging, Reducing & Copying Camera. It comes with its original wet palte holder back and its original 8x10 film/plate back. The ground glass holder for use with the wetplate back is not original and has been custom built for the camera. The camera has a giant 5 foot track once you put the extension on the camera. I extended the camera to approx 48" but didn't want to go further and put stress on the bellows. The bellows are in great shape and are heavy duty, flexible and strong . I tested them with a flashlight and only saw a few tiny pinhole leaks. They can be used as they are or repaired. The camera is quite sturdy and will accommodate a super big lens. On the front of the camera it has a 6x6 lens board in it and it has the ability to accept an 8x8 inch lens board or a 10x10 inch lens board, which are not included. If one wanted to attach the lens in the middle of the camera,, the lensboard opening is approx 10x10 inch and no lensboartd is included. If one were to use the middle of the camera for the lens,, the shortest focal distance is approx 6 inches from the lensboard opening to the ground glass. If one wanted to mount a lens on the front, the shortest focal length would be approx 16 inches. The 8x10 film / plate ground glass back is intact. The 8x10 film back is an Eastman Kodak, normal for the 2-D type cameras, and accepts modern 8x10 film holders. The wetplate back is adjustable and accepts 8x10 and smaller plates by adjusting the position of top structure and the bottom driptray portion. The tambour slide moves smoothly and looks to be light tight on the wet plate holder. There have been repairs to the wetplate holder and it does show some wear from use and age. The rear standard of the camera does not have any movements but the front standard does have rise and fall and side to side movements which work. The camera is missing some tightening fittings on the right side of the front standard but the ones on the left side work and hold quite well. The catch for the small door latch in the middle standard is not original. The fine focus adjustment handle on the back standard works smoothly. The bolts to attach and secure the rear track extension to the camera base are not original. The camera looks great made of a nice hardwood. The camera is quite heavy and the box will weigh over 40 pounds. If your looking for a wetplate studio camera that also has the ability to have giant bellows extension this is the camera for you. Due to its weight and size the camera is being sold "as-is" with no returns. I doubt it can be shipped overseas due to the size of the box.
